Auto Manufacturing
In the AUT program at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳, we train students, some of whom are the first members of their families to receive a college education, to be qualified for jobs as multicraft technicians. AUT graduates meet the needs of area industry in industrial automation and troubleshooting, which includes hydraulics and pneumatics, programmable logic controllers, robotics, and sensor technology; all of which help keep Alabama’s industry competitive in a world market and pro-viding students with highly paid, dependable jobs.
Welding
The Welding program at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ provides students with the knowledge and skills in the heating and melting of metals. Students get to experience rigorous hands on training with cutting, forming, and the permanent joining of metal products used in construction of bridges, buildings, and ships -some of which are done in conjuction with computers and robots. Students often work on assembly lines, steel mills, railroad shops and highway departments; keeping Alabama’s industry competitive in a world market and providing students with highly paid, dependable jobs.
Nursing
The nursing program at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ offers two points of exit. After successful completion of the third semester of the nursing curriculum, the student is awarded a certificate in practical nursing and may be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses. After successful completion of five semesters of the nursing curriculum, the graduates is awarded an Associate in Applied Science-Associated Degree Nursing and may be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses.
Industrial Electronics Technology
Industrial Electronics Technicians are needed in every industry that uses machinery, from automotive assem-bly plants to computer manufacturers. These technicians re-pair and maintain electrical instruments and equipment, as well as install and dismantle them. Every time a new appli-ance leaves a factory or a new car rolls off the assembly line, skilled Industrial Electronics Technicians played a role in keeping the production lines working effectively and effi-ciently; keeping Alabama’s industry competitive in a world market and providing students with highly paid, dependable jobs.
Computer Information Systems
The Computer Information Systems program prepares students to be successful or enhance their careers in select, high-demand, information technology fields. Special emphasis is placed on the IT needs of local employers in the college’s service area. In addition, the program provides a solid foundation for those who wish to pursue a 4 year degree in an IT field; keeping Alabama’s industry competitive in a world market and pro-viding students with highly paid, dependable jobs.
Office Administration
The primary mission of the Office Administration program is to provide degree and certificate candidates an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and high-quality academic, technical, and professional skills required for both entry and advancement as an office professional. These skills are crucial for career success. They empower students to apply their newly acquired skills and knowledge in relevant settings, as well as rely upon their personal attributes to lead productive lives and become contributing members of the global community.
Truck Driving
This 6-week course is an approach to understanding and applying practical guidelines to the laws and related to driving a commercial truck. Instruction is provided in the following areas: basic vehicle operation, safe operating practices, non-vehicle activities, vehicle maintenance, advanced operating practices, proficiency development in preparation for taking the commercial driver’s license test. The student who successfully completes the course earns a CLASS A COMMERCIAL DRIVER’S LICENSE.
Machine Shop
The Machine Shop program provides students with the opportunity to explore and learn a highly skilled and valuable trade. Acquiring the knowledge and skills for precision machining opens a wealth of employment opportunities throughout the world in such areas as production machinists, tool and die makers, computer numeric control (CNC) operators and programmers, as well as quality inspectors; keeping Alabama’s industry competitive in a world market and providing students with highly paid, dependable jobs.
Cosmetology
The Cosmetology program provides students with the knowledge needed to obtain an Alabama State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering/National Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC) License, as well as the skills for immediate employment once licensed. Students are trained in hair cutting, shampooing and styling, chemical texture services, hair color, manicuring and pedicuring, and facial waxing, massage, and treatments. Along with Cosmetology salon practices, students are taught Business of Cosmetology and Employability Skills, which are essential for Cosmetologists to own or manage a business, as nail technician, makeup artist, esthetics, hair colorist, chemical services technician, salon managers, and business owners.
Marine Technology
This non-credit program prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to repair outboard and inboard engines; test, maintain, and repair steering devices and electrical systems; repair metal, wood, and fiberglass hulls and vessel components; fabricate and maintain sails; and repair and balance propellers and drive shafts.
